Affluence creates poverty. Marshall McLuhan
Poverty perspective from Mexico City. How can it be solve. What can we do to make things better. Is it easy to solve? How about starting one person at a time.
You know, we have a selective vision. Some times when we walk around the city, we see people that are poor, but most of the time, we select not to watch them, not to see them, not so be there for anyone. We see images, we see people, but we are not move in any way because of it. Why? Arent we part of the humanity.
It is really simple to avoid being part of it, the only way we can change things is by taking it as one of our daily tasks.
I have a story to tell you, when I was a kid, and I used to live in a small apartment, and there were some poor guys living in front of it. My dad used to talk to one of this guys, who look like he had education. This guy used to called himself “Kaliman” and he had one suit, nothing amazing just a suit, sometime after we move, I ask my dad a bit more, about the story of this guy because at some point I stop knowing about him.
Well my dad told me that he talk with him some minutes every week, and at some point he told my dad that he was a teacher at a university and decide to get rid of everything because of bad timing in his life, his wife left him and other things. He didnt have any money, because he choose to. So his poverty was different was chosen. By this he told my dad, how was it living there, how people never talk to the people, how no on paid attention to them, everything was different from the moment he decide not to be respected as a teacher to be a poor person. Well by his election, he made a change in some way in me and my dad. We decide to help to be part of the other side, look at people, know their names, even saying hello, it really helps, its not about the money its about respect, its about helping people have something to eat each day.
This story is not about giving away your possessions or even giving away your cash to help people, but how about investing some minutes of your life asking how people are feeling, their names, or helping with food. Its not that hard, and its not impossible, its just starting to be part of the story and help someone out.
